The province of Veraguas is located to Central-West of the Republic of Panama. It has 11,239,3 km2 and is divided in eleven districts (Watchtower, Calobre, Cañazas, La Tabla, Las Palmas, Montijo, Río de Jesus, San Francisco, Santa Fé, Santiago, Soná). Its capital Santiago, founded in 1636, is one of the cities of great economic growth in the country.

With worries of Panama’s city condo market overheating, investors are looking to lesser-known destinations throughout the country where more affordable property prices exist. While an argument can be made for some of established Panama real estate hot spots, the following is my personal list of the most current “in” and “out” investment areas.

Panama City – Prices may not yet have peaked, but the glut of condos about to come on to the market has this writer wary that the upside may be shrinking…and fast. Many claim that new buyers arriving daily from places as diverse as China, Venezuela and Spain can keep this afloat, but I think there are safer bets out there. What is happening in the Panamanian Real Estate market?

What is going on in Panama is without any sort of precedent. The market is growing rapidly and such real estate development has never been experienced before in our country. Monthly, we are visited for hundreds of foreigners interested in buying real estates in Panama, in the City, the coasts and the mountains. The constant rising of the value per square meter is almost in a monthly rate. For example: in January, 2006 it was possible to find apartments in Panama City for around US$ 1,000.00 per square meter, which is nearly impossible nowadays (US$ 1,200 – US$1,400 and rising). This has generated the value per square meter to triplicate in the city and even to quadruplicate in the rest of the country. The main real estate broker associations have foreseen that the general value of the land in Panama could rise up to 30% to 40% in the next three years, due to this price increasing flow.

Veraguas is located in the central provinces area of the Republic of Panama, it has the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the South. To the east it has Colon, Cocle, Herrera and Los Santos and to the west it has Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro. It is made up of 11 districts: Atalaya, Calobre, Cañazas, La Mesa, Las Palmas, Montijo, Río de Jesús, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Santiago and Soná. Its name comes from the term “Veracua”, which is how the indigenous people called this territory.
